Client-server architecture
If several people in the office need to communicate with remote personnel via SMS, it is
not necessary to equip each computer with a GSM modem. Headwind SMS suite allows to share one
GSM modem between several computers. The computer connected with a GSM modem (server) must
be equipped with Headwind GSM Modem Driver, which uses DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) technology to provide access to the SMS capabilities to other computers (clients) in the network.
This solution may be particularly useful if the office personnel needs to send SMS to the contacts
from Microsoft Outlook address book. In this case, Headwind SMS Outlook Add-In
must be installed on each client computer. It is also necessary to install Headwind GSM Modem Driver
on each client computer (but it won't be used so you do not need a license for client copies).
When the Outlook user sends a short message through Headwind SMS Outlook Add-In, it connects to
the server through DCOM and transfers the message to the GSM modem.
To use DCOM technology, both client and server must be configured manually. The manual for GSM modem
sharing is available online and is also included in the distributive
of Headwind SMS Outlook Add-In. The architecture has been tested for Windows XP. Currently, we do not recommend using Windows Vista in this architecture because DCOM does not work properly on this system.
